Intermediate Accountant, Creative Industries

North Sydney / Hybrid · Full time

About Count Out Loud

Count Out Loud is the accountant for Australia’s creative industries. We work with a wide range of creative industry clients, from film and television production companies, documentary producers, post-production and VFX studios, content creators and creative freelancers across the country, the people making the work everyone else watches. Strength behind the spotlight is the whole idea, the financial backing that lets creative businesses do their best work.

Creative businesses earn differently to everyone else, with project-based revenue, seasonal cash flow, government offsets and income built on IP, which trips up plenty of firms and it is exactly the kind of work we built our entire practice around. We have been a Xero Platinum Champion Partner since 2016 and our work runs from Producer Offset claims and QAPE tracking through to business structuring, tax compliance and Virtual CFO advisory. We are a technology forward practice, and we use a broad set of tools to keep the work moving and the thinking clear, rather than buried in spreadsheets.

The role

We are looking for an Intermediate Accountant who wants to build a career somewhere the work is actually interesting. You will prepare compliance and reporting work across a portfolio of production companies, creators and creative businesses, with senior accountants close by to guide you and a clear path towards advisory work as you grow.

This is a developing seat with genuine support behind it. We back people working towards their CA or CPA with study leave and mentoring, and we make sure you get real exposure to advisory and Producer Offset work rather than being left on compliance alone.

What you will be doing

  • Preparing income tax returns, BAS and financial statements for a portfolio of creative industry clients
  • Processing and reconciling accounts in Xero across production companies, content creators and creative freelancers
  • Helping track QAPE and supporting senior accountants on Producer Offset claims
  • Assisting with entity structuring and the SPV setups common in film and television production
  • Liaising with clients on day to day queries and building the relationships that grow with you
  • Learning the advisory side of the practice alongside experienced accountants

What we are looking for

  • Working towards your CA or CPA, with one to three years in public practice or business services
  • A solid grounding in Australian tax compliance and financial reporting fundamentals
  • Confident in Xero, or quick to learn it, and comfortable across cloud accounting tools
  • Organised, accurate and genuinely keen to develop your technical skills
  • A clear communicator who can talk to creative founders like a human, without the jargon
  • Curious about the creative industries and the businesses behind the work

Experience in screen, media, or entertainment accounting is a bonus rather than a requirement. What matters most is a strong foundation and a real appetite to specialise.

Why join Count Out Loud?

Your clients will be building films, television series, documentaries and creative businesses, so the work stays varied and rarely feels routine. We are a specialist team, which means your contribution is visible, your development is taken seriously and there is a clear path from compliance into advisory work.

You get study support towards your CA or CPA, flexibility around how and where you work, and the chance to build a specialism in one of the most distinctive corners of Australian accounting.
